Etymology

Latin cumarina ‘coumarin’. For the strong coumarin scent of the type species, Cumarinia odorata, comparable to that of sweetscented bedstraw (Galium odoratum) and tonka beans (Dipteryx odorata).

Originally invalidly published as Coryphantha subgen. Cumarinia F.M.Knuth (1936).
