Etymology

Latin ŏdōrātus ‘that has a smell, odorous, scented, sweet-smelling, fragrant’. For the strong coumarin scent, comparable to that of sweetscented bedstraw (Galium odoratum) and tonka beans (Dipteryx odorata).
