Latin Nickelsĭae, genitive (possessive) form of Nickelsĭa, latinization of Nickels. Named for Anna B. Nickels, who collected the species. It ws already commercially available under the name Mammillaria nickelsii when Brandegee described it. She used the spelling Mamillaria Nickelsæ.
