Etymology

Latin diffÄ­cÄ­lis ‘hard, difficult, troublesome’. For the difficulty in growing this species experienced by Belgian nurseryman Frantz De Laet. Quehl: “The plants were found in Mexico by Mr. Purpus and sent to Mr. De Laet. However, this really beautiful species does not want to acclimate here, rather it regularly perishes in cultivation. In accordance with this information from Mr. De Laet, I have named it difficilis (difficult, difficult to treat).”
