Etymology

Latin ăpex (stem ăpĭc-) ‘tip’ + Latin –flōrus ‘-flowered’. For the flowers that appear very close to the stem tip. Published simultaneously with Cereus acranthus (= Haageocereus acranthus) (Greek akros ‘tip’ + Greek anthos ‘flower’).
