Latin flāvus ‘yellow’ + Latin saeta, sēta ‘bristle’. For the golden-brown bristles on the cephalium. Ritter: “[E]ach ar[eole] with a thick white ball of wool 15-25 mm long and with very numerous soft, 4-6 cm long golden-brown bristles, which are so dense that they cover the wool; the bristles correspond entirely to the sp[ines] of the normal ribs, except that they are more numerous and longer and project more horizontally and are also thicker; they are so dense that the cephalia can be used directly as a brush”.
