🌵 Author(s)
🌵 Type Cereus serruliflorus
Etymology

Greek neos ‘new’ + Haiti + Cereus, the name of a genus of columnar cacti and a designation for columnar cacti in general. For the occurrence in Haiti. The prefix neo– apparently signifies that the subgenus was “new”. Areces: “Because it [Cereus serruliflorus] does not tie in with any recognized subgenera of Cereus, it is proposed as a new one, Neohaiticereus, alluding to its only site of occurrence.” A genus or subgenus named “Haiticereus” does not exist.

The correct name for this taxon at the rank of genus is Serrulatocereus.
