🌡 Author(s)

Etymology

Latin ingens ‘enormous’. Taylor & Machado: “Named for its imposing stature, being one of the largest of all Brazilian cacti and its flowers and seeds likely being the largest in Cereus.”

The combination Cereus ingens was occasionally used but apparently never validly published for Echinocactus ingens (= Echinocactus platyacanthus) in the 19th and 20th centuries.
