Cereaster

Cereaster (Salm-Dyck) Labour. ()
🌵 Author(s)
Etymology

Cereus + Latin –aster, a suffix denoting either an incomplete resemblance or “the principal division of a genus”. Originally published as Cereastreæ. Labouret demoted Salm-Dyck’s tribe of that name to generic rank, but failed to change the name accordingly. Cereastreae is correctable to Cereaster under article 32.2 of the International Code of Nomenclature, making the name of this genus a later homonym of Cereaster F.Berge (1842).
