Spanish tetetzo, a vernacular name of the species in Mexico.
The combination Cephalocereus tetetzo is oftend attributed to Diguet (Cact. Utiles Mex.: 370. 1928), but the combination he actually published was Cephalocereus tetazo (based on Cereus tetazo F.A.C.Weber ex J.M.Coult.).
Vernacular names include tetetzo, tetazo, cabeza de viejo and tetecho. The edible fruits are known as higos de tetetzo (Standley in Contr. U.S. Natl. Herb. 23(4): 897. 1924).
