Etymology

Cactus (used here in the sense of Cactaceae in general) + –ara, the suffix denoting a multigeneric hybrid. This name was proposed, together with ×Cactus, as a “collective generic name” for cactus hybrids regardless of their parentage. The International Code of Nomenclature does not allow such names.
