Not explained by Doweld. Presumably named for Mexican botanist Helia Bravo Hollis (1901-2001). Not to be confused with Bravocactus Doweld.
Bravocereus was a provisional name for Pilosocereus subgen. Gounellea at the rank of genus, but Doweld apparently abandoned the idea of raising this subgenus to generic rank. A valid generic name for this taxon, Xiquexique, was published in 2020.
