Greek plagios ‘placed sideways, oblique’ + Greek stoma ‘mouth’. Not explained by Vaupel. Presumably for the flowers, described by him as “somewhat obliquely zygomorphic” (“etwas schrΓ€g zygomorph”). The epithet is a noun in apposition and should not be changed to plagiostomus.
