🌵 Author(s)

🌵 Type Bonifazia quezalteca
Etymology

Bonifaz + Latin -Äa, the recommended suffix to form plant genus names from personal names that end with a consonant (Rec. 60B.1(b), International Code of Nomenclature). Named for “the family of Don Guillermo Bonifaz of Quezaltenango [Quetzaltenango]. The senior author has spent two months in their pension in that city, and has many cherished memories of the gracious hospitality extended to him. To no other lodging place in Central America would he return with so much pleasure as to the Pension Bonifaz, of which he has only happy memories, despite the benumbing cold and fog that so often characterize the climate of that western metropolis of Guatemala.”
