Etymology

Greek aulax (stem aulak-) ‘furrow’ + Greek thēlē ‘nipple’. For the grooved tubercles. Based on Mammillaria sect. Aulacothelae Lem.

Aulacothele was rejected against Coryphantha in 1994.
