Latin Glaziovĭi, genitive (possessive) form of Glaziovĭus, latinization of Glaziou (see Art. 60.9 Ex. 29, International Code of Nomenclature). Named for French botanist Auguste François Marie Glaziou (1828-1906). Schumann: “I have named this species in honor of the most eminent Mr Glaziou, a most amiable and distinguished promoter of science, an unceasing and diligent collector of Brazilian plants, who helped me in this work in such a way that, without his kindness, I could never have completed the monograph of Brazilian Cactaceae”. Compare Cylindropuntia bigelovii.
