Genaust, nom. inval. (1983)
Etymology
🌵 Author(s) | Helmut Genaust |
Greek anthos ‘flower’ + Cereus, the name of a genus of columnar cacti and a designation for columnar cacti in general. A name mentioned by Helmut Genaust (Etymologisches Wörterbuch der botanischen Pflanzennamen, 2. Auflage. 1983), who erroneously assumed that Thrixanthocereus was a compound of Greek thrix ‘hair’ and the non-existing generic name Anthocereus.
