Etymology

Anhalonium + Greek –opsis ‘looking like’. For the similarity in habit to Lophophora, which used to be included in Anhalonium.

Mottram (Cactician 5. 2014) published Anhaloniopsis as an “allogenus”, a genus of intergeneric allopolyploid origin, which he indicates with the summation symbol Σ: ΣAnhaloniopsis.
