Named for Scottish-born American botanist and explorer in Southern Mexico Thomas Baillie MacDougall (1895–1973). Cutak: “It is my pleasure to name it Peniocereus Macdougallii, dedicating it to Thomas MacDougall, who for many years has been an enthusiastic student and collector of plants in the Isthmian region of Mexico.”
