Etymology

Rhipsalis (stem Rhipsalid-) + Greek -opsis ‘looking like’. “The generic name is given on account of its resemblance to some of the species of Rhipsalis.”

This name has the same meaning as Pseudorhipsalis, a genus published by Britton and Rose in the same publication.
