🌵 Author(s)
🌵 Type Quasitephrocactus weberi
🌵 Replacement of Ursopuntia
Etymology

Latin quăsÄ ‘resembling’ + Tephrocactus. For the similarity to Tephrocactus.

This was the only plant genus with the prefix quasi– before the publication of Quasiantennaria R.J.Bayer & M.O.Dillon (Asteraceae) in 2019. It was presumably chosen because the more obvious name Pseudotephrocactus already existed.

Quasitephrocactus was intended as a replacement name for Ursopuntia, which Popov considered invalid.
