Greek neos ‘new’ + Raimondi + Latin -a, the recommended suffix to form plant genus names from personal names that end with a vowel other than a (Rec. 60B.1(a), International Code of Nomenclature). Named for Antonio Raimondi (1825-1890), “the great geographer and naturalist of Peru”. Raimondia Saff. (1913) is a genus in the family Annonaceae.
