Etymology

Named after the Gestapo, the secret police of Nazi Germany and German-occupied Europe. This name and Gangsteria for two “invasive” cactus genera were supposedly proposed by Frič to protest the German occupation of Czechoslovakia (Zdeňka Řezníčková, Osobnost A. V. Friče a jeho přínos pro české kulturní a vědecké prostředí [Diploma thesis]: 75. 2014; original source probably Karel Crkal, Lovec kaktusů: 344. 1983 [not seen]). See also Rebutia einsteinii.
