Epiphyllanthus

Epiphyllanthus A.Berger ()
🌵 Author(s)
🌵 Type Epiphyllanthus obtusangulus
Etymology

Epiphyllum (presumably Epiphyllum Pfeiff. = Schlumbergera (truncata), not Epiphyllum Haw. = Epiphyllum as it is now understood) + Greek anthos ‘flower’. For the flowers that “rise from the top of the joints as in Epiphyllum“. Possibly inspired by the name Phyllanthus epiphyllanthus L. for a species in the family Phyllanthaceae. Not directly from Greek epi ‘on’ + Greek phyllon ‘leaf’ + Greek anthos ‘flower’ (Boerner, Taschenwörterbuch der botanischen Pflanzennamen. 4. Auflage. 1989).
