Etymology

Greek en ‘in’ + Greek kephalÄ“ ‘head’ + Greek karpos ‘fruit’. For the fruits that stay hidden in the woolly crown. Berger: “Fruits hidden in the crown base [footnote:] Hence the name: en kephale karpos = in the head, the fruit.” This genus was split off from Ariocarpus.
