Greek daktylos ‘finger’ + Greek anthos ‘flower’ + Cactus. Publication not seen. For the “finger-shaped” flowers (Itō, quoted by Backeberg, Cactaceae 3: 1576. 1959). Backeberg (l.c.): “It remains inexplicable what Ito understands as ‘finger-shaped’ in this regard.”
Published as a replacement name for Brasilicactus, which Itō considered illegitimate (Doweld in Taxon 49(3): 565. 2000). Brasilicactus was itself a replacement name for Acanthocephala.
