🌵 Type Cochiseia robbinsiorum
Etymology

Cochise + Latin -Äa, the recommended suffix to form plant genus names from personal names that end with a consonant (Rec. 60B.1(b), International Code of Nomenclature). “It was found in southeast Cochise County, Arizona, and the genus is named for the Apache chief Cochise, whose tribe roamed the hills where the plant grows.”

The name Cochiseia contravenes Rec. 60B.1(a) of the International Code of Nomenclature, which recommends forming generic names from personal names that end with a vowel other than –a by adding the suffix –a (“Cochisea“) rather than –ia, but this is not a correctable error.
