🌵 Type Cylindropuntia whipplei
Etymology

Cactus + Greek dendron ‘tree’. Name coined to distinguish certain Opuntias with a “shrubby form and woody fibre” from Opuntia arborescens (Latin arborescens ‘tree-like’).

The type species (the only included species) is Opuntia whipplei (= Cylindropuntia whipplei), but the combination Cactodendron whipplei was never published.
