Borzicactus

Borzicactus Riccob. ()
🌡 Author(s)
🌡 Type Borzicactus sepium subsp. ventimigliae
Etymology

Borzì + Cactus. Named for Antonino Borzì (1852-1921), director of the botanical garden of Palermo. Riccobono had wanted to name the genus Borzia, which was the form recommended by the code of botanical nomenclature in force at the time (Vienna Code, art. 24), but since there was already a genus of cyanobacteria of that name (Borzia Cohn ex Gomont, 1892) he followed the example set by Britton and Rose with their Lemaireocereus, Weberocereus and Bergerocactus. See also Borzicactella.
