Etymology

Arrojado + Latin -a, the recommended suffix to form plant genus names from personal names that end with a vowel other than a (Rec. 60B.1(a), International Code of Nomenclature). Named for Dr. Miguel Arrojado Lisboa, superintendent of the Estrada de Ferro Central do Brazil railway company, “to whom Brazil is indebted for the extensive botanical exploration of the semiarid regions made a few years ago”.
